Parentage verification of Valle del Belice dairy sheep using microsatellite markers
2008
The objectives of the present work were to evaluate polymorphism of microsatellite markers, develop a parentage test and estimate misidentification rate on Valle del Belice Sicilian dairy sheep breed. Polymorphism was evaluated from 184 randomly selected animals from 5 different flocks. A total of 21 microsatellite markers including CSRD247, ILST011, McM527, APO010, INRA132, DU194351, DU323541, FCB128, McM16, OarCP49, ILST087, DU223896, ILST005, TCRVB06, SPS113A, INRA063A, SPS115, DU206192, DU216028, BM827 and McM54 were amplified using three PCR reactions and fragment lengths determined in a single multiplex electrophoresis run. Markers were easily genotyped, very polymorphic and in Hardy-…
High-throughput 18K SNP array to assess genetic variability of the main grapevine cultivars from Sicily
2016
The viticulture of Sicily, for its vocation, is one of the most important and ancient forms in Italy. Autochthonous grapevine cultivars, many of which known throughout the world, have always been cultivated in the island from many centuries. With the aim to preserve this large grapevine diversity, previous studies have already started to assess the genetic variability among the Sicilian cultivars by using morphological and microsatellite markers. In this study, simple sequence repeat (SSR) were utilized to verify the true-to-typeness of a large clone collection (101) belonging to 21 biotypes of the most 10 cultivated Sicilian cultivars. Afterwards, 42 Organization Internationale de la Vigne…
Data from: Harvesting changes mating behavior in European lobster
2018
Removing individuals from a wild population can affect the availability of prospective mates and the outcome of competitive interactions, with subsequent effects on mating patterns and sexual selection. Consequently, the rate of harvest-induced evolution is predicted to be strongly dependent on the strength and dynamics of sexual selection yet, there is limited empirical knowledge on the interplay between selective harvesting and the mating systems of exploited species. In this study, we used genetic parentage assignment to compare mating patterns of the highly valued and overexploited European lobster (Homarus gammarus) in a designated lobster reserve and nearby fished area in Southern Nor…
